2009/2010 Artist in Residence Guidelines 2009/2010 Artist Roster and Art Project Menu
In order to simplify the application process we have provided an Art Project Menu as part of our roster. You may choose to apply for one of the art projects as it is written, use it as a jumping off point for another project or create a project all your own. The flexibility of this system allows teachers who already have a project and artist in mind to apply as well as making ideas available to those teachers who need them. Download the Artist Roster and Art Project Menu above.

2009-10 Artists-in-Residence Grant Projects
The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Artists-in-Residence Program has been providing PreK - 12th grade arts education throughout the Shoreline School District since 1993. The majority of funding for the program is made possible through the Shoreline Arts Festival GALA event with additional support from the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation, government and foundation grants and the community. This year the Arts Council funded over $17,000 in Artists-in-Residence grants with 22 projects reaching thousands of students in 15 schools and programs. These projects are designed to enhance the regular course of study and feature professional teaching artists working with students in the classroom. The projects will take place between January and June 2010.

Seeing the Whole Picture: Using Visual Art to Give Your Students the Skills They Need to Succeed in the 21st Century
Dates: Tuesdays, March 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2010
Time: 4:30pm-6:30pm
Clock Hours: 8
Location: Shoreline Center, Ballinger Room
Instructor: Jane Steele-Meagher
Students will need skills that use the entire brain to succeed in our ever-changing world. Learn how exercises in seeing, drawing and creating can help develop "left brain" intelligence. Discussions on the importance of 3-dimensional art and 2-dimensional art will lead to projects in clay, papier maché, color theory, perspective, still life drawing and portraiture. Practical tips and technical information, such as using a ceramic kiln and integrating art into the curriculum will be included as well as lesson plans that address the state essential academic learning requirements in the visual arts.
Jane Steele-Meagher has a BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Ceramic Art from the University of Washington. Since graduation, she has exhibited locally and nationally as a textile and clay artist. Over the last 10 years she has completed many successful projects with children and is a teaching artist on the Washington State Arts Commission roster. Projects in a variety of media include collaborative murals, basic drawing, First Nations art and after school clay classes. Ms. Meagher studied art history extensively and is particularly interested in the art of other cultures. Her graduate classes included studies in art of the First People and Asia as well as the natural history of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
